The Best Primers for Every Skin Concern

Primer is one of the most underrated makeup products.

It can turn a good makeup day into a great one. Primer has the ability to tackle and improve concerns related to your skin-type, thus improving the way that makeup applies overtop. It balances between the two worlds of cosmetics and skincare.

Depending on how my skin is feeling, how long I will be wearing makeup, and what type of makeup look I am going for – I reach for one of these three products. Sometimes I even layer them to give me the best results.

Hydrating

Some days, even after I do my regular skincare routine, my skin still feels a little bit dry and tight. That is when I reach for my Glossier Priming Moisturizer ($27). It is hydrating and gives your skin a gorgeous, dewy glow. The product has a thin consistency, so it won’t make your foundation slide around on top of it. I also love to use this on no-makeup days because it gives your skin a radiant finish.

What it is made of:

  • Hyaluronic Acid provides long-lasting moisture
  • Mushroom Super Hydrator plumps the skin and provides deep moisture
  • Tea and Honey Extracts calms the skin and reduces redness

Pores – we all have ‘em, we all hate ‘em. It is legitimately impossible to shrink the size of your pores, but certain products can help to minimize the appearance of them. The Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer ($38) feels like velvet on your skin. It glides over your face, creating a smooth base that looks pore-free. As an added bonus, it helps to keep oil at bay despite the fact that the formula is thick and creamy.

What it is made of:

  • Argan, Rosehip and Meadowfoam Seed Oil moisturizes the skin
  • Silicone-based formula makes it a smooth and blendable

Long-Wearing Oil Control

The Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer – Light ($44) is intended for people with oily or combination skin. It helps to control oil, which in turn keeps your makeup on for way longer. This is my go-to primer when I am wearing a full face of makeup for a night out. It is a gel formula that helps foundation to blend evenly and stick to the skin. I also love to layer it under the Urban Decay Primer so that together they tackle all of my skin issues.

What it is made of:

  • Vitamin C and Peptide helps to protect skin from pollutants and damage
  • Oil-free
