Keeping up with a skincare routine can sometimes feel like a chore; however, there is one step that I will never tire of – face masks.
As with most skincare lovers, I honestly consider face masks to be like a hobby for me. I look forward to doing them. For me, face masks always come hand in hand with down time. It is when I take a break from the world, make a cup of tea, and pamper myself.
I have combination, acne-prone, sensitive skin. Honestly, my skin and I have a very difficult relationship because it is very temperamental. I somehow simultaneously get dry patches and an oily t-zone. Each of these masks help to tackle different issues that I face with my skin: acne and oiliness, dryness and dullness.
I have been using Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty ($29) since I was in high school and I am still obsessed with it. As the name suggests, the mask has a strong minty scent and feels cold on your skin. I love to use this mask when I have a breakout (which truthfully is 96 per cent of the time). It is made of kaolin clay and peppermint oil so it helps to clear out your pores. The cool feeling is so soothing on inflamed skin. The mask also contains ground aduki beans, so when you wash it off, it exfoliates your skin. I personally like to get the self-preserving version of this mask so that I can leave it on while I read in the tub, without it getting uncomfortable.
In the Morning
The Nip + Fab Kale Fix Clay Mask ($20) is perfect for when you wake up in the morning and your skin feels dry. You simply leave it on for 10 minutes, rinse and see instant results. Unlike many other clay products I have used, it doesn’t dry down into a crunchy mask. Instead, it almost absorbs into the skin. When you wash it off, your skin is left soft and hydrated. I think that this is the perfect product for SOS dry skin emergencies.
I always reach for the Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask ($45 USD) when I want to pamper my skin. The glass bottle, millennial pink jelly, and watermelon Jolly Rancher scent are to die for. More importantly, this mask makes your skin feel amazing. You sleep with it on overnight and it lightly exfoliates your skin to leave you with a baby soft, glowing complexion. It is also the only sleep mask I have tried that is actually pillow proof and won’t make a mess of your bed sheet.
