5 Drugstore Products That Will Give You a Fresh Summer Glow

As much as I love to apply a full face of makeup, in the summer it feels absolutely horrible on my skin. I need something lightweight that makes me look polished, but natural. Below you will find my top drugstore picks for an easy everyday summer look. I find that when I am going for something that doesn’t require intense pigmentation, the drugstore is an amazing place to shop. Some of the products on this list rival – if not outperform – high end brands.

Maybelline Poreless Matte Fit Me Foundation ($12)

In the heat of summer, even the lightest bb cream can make your skin feel sticky and heavy. The Poreless Matte Fit Me Foundation is my current favourite product because it makes your skin look amazing and you can’t even feel it on your face. It is light to medium coverage and can be built up where needed. It smooths over the appearance of pores and has a really nice skin-like finish. It doesn’t appear matte at all even though it claims to be a matte foundation. Instead, it makes your skin look radiant. I find that when I use this foundation, I can get away with only setting my t-zone with powder. This ultimately makes the skin look more natural. The Fit Me Foundation recently expanded their shade range and is now offered in 32 shades.

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara ($10)

When this mascara launched a few months ago, it turned a lot of heads because the packaging is maybe a little bit too similar to the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara ($30). I purchased it solely for the purpose of investigating if it was a dupe for its high-end twin. As it turns out, this mascara is better than Better Than Sex. Shocking! It gives you the perfect amount of clump and thickness, while also lengthening the lashes. In the summertime, I avoid eye makeup like the plague because it always ends up smudging everywhere. This lasts all day long and opens up the eyes. If anything, this product lasts a little too long – it can be difficult to remove without an oil cleanser.

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush ($12)

This blush is the ultimate product for a no-makeup makeup look. It instantly brightens and lifts the face. As I mentioned before, I have not been setting my cheek area with powder after I apply my foundation. When you put this on, it blends seamlessly for a long-lasting, natural flush of colour. You simply warm up the product with your fingers and pat it gently onto your cheekbones. I also like to apply a tiny bit of blush over the slope of my nose to make it look like I am sun-kissed.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer ($15)

The Butter Bronzer was given that name for a reason. The formula is very smooth and soft, making it easy to blend into the skin. Frankly, the packaging of this product is hideous and looks like a child’s toy; however, the smell balances things out for me. It has an incredible coconut scent which I think is absolutely perfect for the summertime. This bronzer comes in two shades, one of which is quite fair. The light shade is perfect for me because it is very cool toned so it doesn’t look muddy on my skin. Unfortunately, the line currently does not offer shades that compliment deep skin tones so hopefully, they expand their shade selection in the future.

NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette ($27)

A summertime glow isn’t complete without the perfect highlight. This palette is absolutely incredible. You get six different shades of silky glow. You are also able to customize a shade that flatters your skin the best depending on how tan you are. TIP: To intensify the glow you get from a powder highlighter, spray your brush with a setting spray before dipping into the pan.

    1. I actually have extremely acne-prone skin. I have combo/sensitive skin and have not had a single problem with it breaking me out. I totally know the fear of trying a new product when you are scared to get a breakout from it!!

  1. Love the post! I’ll have to try out the L’oreal mascara. I currently use the better than sex mascara, but I’d love to compare the two.
