Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask Review

Glow Recipe is a K-Beauty company that takes the best trends and products from Korea and markets them to a U.S. audience. When they announced that they were coming out with their very own Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask ($45 USD), there was a 5,000 person wait list. Since then it has sold out several times.

About the Product

The product is intended to be worn overnight, and promises to hydrate and repair your skin leaving it baby soft. The watermelon extract is a popular ingredient in Korea because the amino-acids soothe your skin. It also contains Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate the skin and AHAs to exfoliate and clarify. The website claims that it will make your skin feel “petal-soft”. Damn, that is pretty soft.

Packaging

The product comes in a white box with an adorable, minimalist design on the front. Packaged in a heavy class container with a millennial pink lid, it is undeniable that the presentation of this mask is absolutely stunning. The product comes with a small spatula applicator, which I found was not helpful to pick up or disperse the mask evenly on my face. Instead, I just opt to use my fingers.

Texture and Scent

The gel like consistency feels cool when you apply it to your face and has a slippery feeling. It really doesn’t feel like there is anything on your skin. The fragrance is very subtle and smells like a watermelon Jolly Rancher. If you are not a fan of sweet smelling things, just know the scent is only noticeable when you first apply it.

I love the idea of an overnight mask because I don’t enjoy products that completely dry down after 20 minutes and leave your skin feeling tight. The amazing part is that this mask is pillow-proof meaning it won’t ruin your sheets. Each time I have used it, I have investigated my pillow the next morning and there is no residue or stains left behind.

First Impression

When I woke up in the morning, I looked in the mirror and was a little bit shocked. I knew that this product contained exfoliating properties but I didn’t expect to see my skin actually peeling off. The best way I can describe it is like when you get a sunburn and you rub your finger over the area and the top layer of skin basically rolls off. So gross. So satisfying.

I rinsed my face with cleanser and patted dry. I could actually see results. Firstly, my skin felt incredibly smooth, but unlike when I use a physical scrub, it felt hydrated and refreshed.

Final Thoughts

The more that I use this mask, the more that I love it. I assume it is the way that it gently exfoliates my skin that has made the difference, but I honestly think that it is helping to heal my breakouts quicker. I have noticed a lot of fading on my dark purple scars that I get from hormonal acne. I get excited to put this on before I go to bed and see how fresh my skin will look in the morning.
