Earth Day is a friendly reminder to be aware of how everyday practices impact the planet. Cleaning supplies, food consumption, and energy use are commonly addressed when it comes to eco-friendly options; however, aspects of your day-to-day routine like your beauty regiment can easily be forgotten when it comes to making changes to be a little more gentle on the planet.
Below are a list of five companies that are earth-friendly, natural, and still actually worth using (this last part is pretty important). Scroll down to the bottom to see my favourite product from each company.
Please note that not all of these products are 100 per cent organic, but they are companies that have adopted practices that make their products and production more sustainable for the environment, and better for you.
Natural ingredients, a strong campaign against animal cruelty, and recycled packaging all make this company a friend of the earth. Lush has a cult of consumers obsessed with their bath bombs and scrubs, and not without good reason.
Describe as “high-performance naturals”, Tarte is a cruelty free cosmetics company. When it comes to natural based products, oftentimes the quality just does not compare to high-end brand names. Tarte however has made a name for itself. Sleek packaging, and intense pigmentation make their products so good that you almost forget it isn’t made of horrible chemicals.
Promise Organic is made from 100 per cent naturally derived ingredients – as you might assume, that is their company promise. Plant extracts and natural oils make their products perfect for any skin type.
Aveda is to earth-friendly makeup companies, what Barbara Streisand is to pop music – sometimes forgotten but still killin’ it. It uses 100 per cent wind power to manufacture the products. The best part? Their website contains an ingredients glossary that shows you images of what everything looks like, tells you where it comes from, and what is does to benefit you.
Bite is a company that thrives itself on containing so many natural products that you could actually eat their lipsticks. Based out of Toronto, the company has a wide range of products. (Note: They are not 100 per cent natural because they have synthetic dyes – food grade…so like…don’t ACTUALLY eat it).
